My dear friend Sherri Koop has put out an amazing book on analog photography. I was honored to be interviewed and included demonstrating the wet-plate process. It's really a great resource by a wonderful photographer! Check out the book HERE.
Photographing the people you care about is like getting a head start in a race. The connection between subject and photographer, which is so paramount in the creative process, is already firmly established. My subject for this session was a dear friend of almost 23 years and her family. I have known Kathryn since the first grade and was so honored to be able to photography her maternity/family session.
We wanted to do a beach session that was relaxed and calm. I choose little Corona in Corona Del Mar, California. It has a wonderful tide pool and rock formations. We decided on a muted color pallet for the outfits that would match the tones of ocean but stand out slightly. We had about an hour of sunlight left when we started the session and worked our way down the beach. A few shots where planned out but most of them came organically. Forming a few seconds before the shutter was fired. I love working in this manner. Letting the nature interpersonal relationships and love of the family move the process.
In reference to the beach, I have always said the environment is the most important part of any photography project. It truly shapes the overall feel and emotion from both subject and artist. I find myself going back to the same locations, not because of the aesthetic but because I am draw to how my subjects react to the space. There is a intrinsic link between the canvas of the sea and a mother with child. I am so happy with the final outcome and excited to share.

In the month of April, we will be doing things a little differently. I am proud to announce my partnership with the Blind Children's Learning Center based in Orange County, CA. It is such a wonderful and important school to so many families of children with visual and hearing impairments. It provides early childhood education, in home care, after school programs and so much more.
Every year, the school must raise a percentage of its budget through fundraisers and donations. So with in mind, every Family Session and Wedding booked in the month of April, 20% of your investment will be donated to help fund this amazing institution. Each Family Session and Wedding booked will also receive a special discount on prints, books, and a la crate items.
If you would like to participate in this fundraiser but want to take pictures at a later time, that's okay. All you need to do is fill out a Contact Form, and send in a deposit of 30% to hold a date of your choosing.
If you do not live in Southern California but would still love to donate (God Bless you), you can do that directly through the Blind Children's Learning Center's cite HERE.
Thank you so much and I look forward to sharing the results at the end of the month!
